"The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the shouting of a ruler among fools. Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good."
The unrest over the recent election is interesting (except for the violence and loss of life). It's been easy, though mistaken, to imagine Iran as a monolithic society of citizens happy with their government. It's possible that the regime in power may be able to maintain it's power through a combination of fraud and force, but the recent events represent a crack in the facade of legitimacy. The fact that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has been implicated probably won't decrease his power but it has certainly stained his reputation in the Islamic world--and that will be worth watching as time and events unfold.
A blog of epic proportions. Okay, so it's probably not epic, but i'm sure there are some sort of proportions in play here. This is a place where family and friends can keep up with our transpacific adventures. It's also a place where anyone who's interested can trace the wanderings of my wonderings.
